Billboard and iLike Collaborate to Produce the First-Ever Social Media Based Music Charts

Multi-tiered chart and content initiative showcases iLike's leading status as a social music discovery service and artist/fan community

New York, NY – October 22, 2007 – Billboard, the world's premiere music chart provider, and iLike, the Web's leading social music discovery service and the dominant music application on Facebook® Platform, have teamed up to create the first social media based music charts drawing from the massive volume of daily music activity that iLike tracks across the internet. Through this collaboration, iLike and Billboard will create compelling, weekly charts reflecting which songs are most popular each week among iLike users on Facebook, as well as leveraging iLike's popular desktop software to monitor the top songs that users are adding to their personal iTunes and Windows Media collections. Additionally, live Billboard newsfeeds will soon be available to iLike's more than to 14 million users. This multi-tiered chart and content initiative was announced today at Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter's Mobile Entertainment Live! conference at the Wireless I.T. and Entertainment event for CTIA – The International Association for the Telecommunications Industry. This marks the first time a social media company has collaborated with Billboard to chart the music preferences of its users.

Billboard will feature two ongoing, weekly charts based on the listening habits of iLike's more than 14 million registered users on iLike.com and Facebook. The first chart will report on the week's top 25 "most added" songs to Facebook user profiles. The second chart will leverage iLike's popular desktop plugins for iTunes and Windows Media Player to monitor the top 25 songs consumers are adding to their personal music libraries on their desktops and iPods. By collaborating with the fastest growing online music service, Billboard will provide its readers with unique access to the listening habits of millions of music fans who rely on iLike to discover new music, connect with friends over music and interact with their favorite artists via iLike's newly launched Artist Service Platform.

"Billboard has been quick to adapt the ever-changing media landscape, and this collaboration with iLike is the latest initiative for the brand, and its parent company Nielsen Business Media, in driving new media platforms to deliver the information our audiences want and need, however they want, whenever they want it," said Scott McKenzie, vice president and editorial director of the digital division of Nielsen Business Media. "The popularity of iLike makes this data a compelling tool for music lovers to discover new music as well as for marketers to track audience trendlines," he added. "We're thrilled to be bringing the music and social media industries together in such an innovative way."

"These new syndicated charts reflect iLike's unique vantage point: while helping users discover music based on their tastes, we also track how they interact with music on the Web and their desktops, and we're now making this data broadly available via our collaboration with Billboard, the premier weekly music publication," said Ali Partovi, CEO of iLike. "As the dominant music application among Facebook users, iLike is rapidly being adopted by artists and labels as their preferred vehicle for cultivating fan communities on Facebook. We expect our Billboard charts will become important tools for the industry."

The two highly anticipated iLike charts will be available every week at www.billboard.com and www.billboard.biz and will also appear in the pages of Billboard magazine.

In addition, Billboard will provide up-to-the-minute music news to iLike's rapidly growing community of music lovers. These live newsfeeds will be incorporated throughout contextually relevant locations on iLike.com and iLike on Facebook, and will include headlines and story synopses.

iLike Unveils Artist Services Platform Enabling Musicians to Reach Facebook Users and Build Viral Fan Communities

iLike now enables artists to communicate with Facebook and iLike.com users and offers fans a personalized feed of what’s new from their favorite artists, leveraging iLike’s vast database of people’s music tastes

SEATTLE – October 4, 2007 – iLike, the Web’s leading social music discovery service and the dominant music application on Facebook® Platform, today announced an innovative new suite of services to help artists build viral fan communities. Leveraging iLike’s “Artist-Fan Graph,” a vast database of connections between consumers and their favorite artists, the new Artist Services Platform is intended to transform the way artists cultivate and communicate with their fanbases. Today’s announcement signals iLike’s transformation beyond music discovery to enabling artist-fan communication on iLike.com and Facebook.

Thanks to its popularity among Facebook users, iLike is now one of the fastest growing music services in the world, with 13 million users worldwide and three million more being added monthly. Among music applications built on Facebook Platform, iLike has a dominant first-place position, with over 20 times more daily users than the second-place contender, according to Facebook’s public applications directory. As a result, iLike is rapidly being adopted by artists and record labels as their preferred vehicle for promoting music to Facebook users. The new features announced today include iCast™, a multimedia blogging tool including mobile video posting for artists, and a personalized news feed for fans to follow what’s new among their favorite artists.

“We're giving artists the opportunity to communicate directly with their fans on Facebook and iLike.com, whether they’re announcing concert dates or simply sharing a personal moment,” said Ali Partovi, CEO of iLike. “Over the past few months we’ve accumulated a tremendous wealth of information about who likes what and now we’re empowering artists to use this data to cultivate their own viral fan communities.”

Features of the iLike Artist Services Platform

iLike’s new Artist Services Platform is free and available to all artists. To participate, artists simply sign up at www.iLike.com/forartists. New features include the following:

  • One Dashboard to Manage Artist Pages on Multiple Sites: Artists and their representatives can now reach fans among both iLike.com and Facebook users through a single dashboard. Designed for use by music industry professionals, the iLike Artist Dashboard allows a manager to manage multiple artists via a single login, and allows multiple account holders (such as record label representatives, managers and so forth) to share access to a single artist.
  • Easy Multimedia Blogging with iCast: Designed to encourage artist-fan communication, iLike’s new iCast tool allows artists to easily post messages with text, photos, audio and video.
  • Convenient Mobile Videocasting: iCast enables artists to post content directly from any mobile phone via email. Turning any cameraphone into an instant personal broadcasting system, artists can now communicate with fans from wherever they want to – capturing candid moments on video from the back of a tour bus, inside the recording studio, backstage at a sold-out show and so forth.
  • Personalized Artist Activity Feed & Concert Alerts for Fans: Powerfully leveraging iLike’s “Artist-Fan Graph” of people’s music tastes, the artist activity feed will inform fans when their favorite artists post iCast messages, upload songs or videos or announce new events. Fans on Facebook will also be alerted via stories inserted into their News Feed.
  • Stats and Reports for Artists: The number of fans an artist has access to will now be made public on every artist page. Additionally, iLike will provide artists with more detailed stats about how their fanbase is interacting with their content. For example, iLike will report on the number of an artist’s songs that have been added to user profiles.
